Thread: notified of a particular icon appearing in gnome-panel notification area

hi all,

there way in can notified of new icon appearing on gnome-panel notification area.
lotus notes notifies me of new mail placing new-mail icon in notification area. want handle event , run script when new mail arrives..
ideas on pointers on how started?

i think better solution if lotus notes run app when new mail recieved, though don't use lotus notes may not option.
