Thread: What the **** is going on?

i've been using 9.10 since released stable version , saw tonight there security upgrades clicked on them , started download , installation. after finished, network-manager disappears completely. not icon, newtork-manager itself. so, idiot being me thought "maybe needs reboot" . went terminal , typed in sudo shutdown -r , went through normal reboot phase until got screen says

"boot (hd0, 0) ext3 somerandomnumbers

error 15: file not found

press key continue"

press key , sends me screen 5 options, 4 of ubuntu9.10 , kernel , 2 of them have recovery mode in paranthesis behind them. not of take me anywhere, send me file not found screen. 5th option ubuntu9.10 memtest86+ , goes i'm assuming memory test(?)

yeah. suggestions? have year's worth of research on pos , partially backed (i know, stupid) there anyway salvage memory?

ahead of time.
