the great folks @ atmel sent me sample 644s, have no means of programming them. i've tried using 2 arduinos, uno , mega, isps , neither 1 can burn sanguino (or other) bootloader, through avrdude or arduino ide. have no money purpose built isp, sadly, , want able upload sketches through arduino ide 1 way or another.
try nick gammon's bootload installer. 644 should use same bootloader 1284 (same chip, twice memory).
