1st part - article layouts

this global review of menu item parameters. current report includes analysis of article layouts in detail (i have planned similar review rest of components). have verified behaviour of new component configuration framework in 2 scenarios, , several problems related sef urls , menu items (see reports:#1 , #2).

the included points in review are:

1. overview of significant features, changes between versions , issues related behaviour of component configuration framework.
2. general , specific issues/bugs regarding menu items have found , related reports have identified on 1.5 boards.
3. lists of layout parameters included in beta 2, , removed or missed between versions.

another point consider differentiation between "basic" , "advanced" parameters. suggest following criteria include parameters in each 1 of categories:

1. menu item parameters (basic): common parameters layouts ("show page title", "page title", "page class suffix", "menu image", "ssl enabled").
2. advanced parameters: section include specific parameters of type of layout.

in way have organization of parameters more consistency, , structured in levels: common parameters, layout specific parameters , component configuration parameters.

finally there issues related labels , tooltips. these included in review not complicate more report.

1. archived article list

overview:

this layout shows each article: title, created date , time, author, content (limited 255 characters). parameter settings @ component configuration used partially in main view (list of archived articles). there related issues subject (see below).

issues/bugs:

• the settings of "created date , time" , "author" @ component configuration override settings of parameters @ article advanced parameters (even if setting here not "use global"). not expected behaviour. (note: on other hand, "title" , rest of parameters of component configuration have no effect on main view -list of archived articles-).
• uncategorized articles aren't included in list.
• links articles don't work (error 404). happens "archived" module => see related report

list of layout parameters:

• "order by"

removed/missed layout parameters:

• "show created date , time" => set in component configuration.
• "show author" => set in component configuration.

(note: "filter bar" , "pagination" displayed default. there not parameter them).

2. standard article layout

issues/bugs:

• several specific issues layout reported => see related report
• problem when selecting article => solved in related report

exclusive parameters of "component configuration" , "articles preferences":

the following parameters don't available @ article advanced parameters:

• "hits" => parameter of specific type of layout (category type layout) think available specific parameters of layout only.
• "read more link" => specific parameter of blog layouts , styles articles group. there no possibility set individually each article. so, available in layouts (note: person have claimed option set individually, in way available in standard article layout too).
• "icons", "show navigation", "show unauthorized links" => these parameters style articles group. there no possibility set individually each article.

parameters without "use global" option in "article advanced parameters":

these parameters stay out of logic behind new framework. parameters settings @ article advanced parameters override component configuration settings @ menu item (or article preferences settings when accessing articles via module...) => see related reports #1, #2

• "show article title", "show intro text", "section name", "section name linkable", "category name", category name linkable"

3. article submission layout

no issue/bug identified.

4. category blog layout

general issues/bugs:

• you can't select more 1 category => see related reports: #1, #2 => ruled out, see discussion

• you can save menu item without select category. there no warning message.
• there unnecessary "article title" parameter on menu item parameters (it can set in component configuration).

specific issues/bugs on blog view:

• "image description" => doesn't work (see related report)
• "linked titles" => global setting don't work

• "section name" => global setting don't work
• "section name linkable" => doesn't work (both article , global setting)
• "category name" => global setting doesn't work
• "category name linkable" => doesn't work (both article , global setting)

   

• "author names" => global setting doesn't work
• "created date , time" => global setting doesn't work
• "modified date , time" =>  global setting doesn't work
• "item rating/voting" => global setting overrides article setting hiding results of voting

• "icons" => parameter isn't present in article advanced parameters (note: when specific (pdf, print, email) icon parameter setted "show" in article advanced parameters , "icons" parameter setted "hide" in component configuration, layout shows text of pdf link not the icon)
• "pdf icon" => global setting doesn't work
• "print icon" => global setting doesn't work
• "email icon" => global setting doesn't work

• "description", "description image", "# leading", "# intro", "columns", "# links"
• "category order" (->it must removed), "primary order", "pagination", "pagination results"

(note: "article title" => unnecessary parameter -see above-)

removed/missed layout parameters:

• "unpublished items" => parameter available in 1.0.x series (it allows showing unpublished articles publisher users , above).

5. standard category layout

overview:

the parameter settings @ component configuration used partially in main view (table of articles). there related issues subject (see below). there no possibility show list of other categories (see removed parameters).

general issues/bugs:

• you can save menu item without select category. there no warning message.
• the layout shows category description , image default (there not parameter hide them).
• ordering list of articles possible "asc" => see related report

specific issues/bugs on table view:

• there no many consistency in use of component configuration parameters set main view (table of articles): 1) "show article title", "author column" , "hits" set via component configuration. 2) "date column" have specific layout parameter. 3) "linked titles" have no effect in main view. note: perhaps these parameters should set via specific layout parameters (as in 1.0.x series).

• "table headings", "date column", "date format", "filter", "filter field"
• "primary order", "pagination", "display select"

removed/missed layout parameters:

• "category description" => showed default
• "category description image" => showed default

• "author column" => set in component configuration (see above).
• "hits column" => set in component configuration (see above).
• "display number" => "all" articles displayed default.

• "other categories"
• "empty categories"
• "# category items"
• "category description"

• "unpublished items" => parameter available in 1.0.x series (it allows showing unpublished articles publisher users , above).

6. frontpage blog layout

general issues/bugs:

• "description" , "description image" parameters unnecessary in type of layout.
• the same happens "article title", parameter unnecessary on menu item parameters. can set via component configuration.

specific issues/bugs on blog view:

• there same issues "blog category layout" (see above).

• "# leading", "# intro", "columns", "# links"
• "category order", "primary order", "pagination", "pagination results"

7. section blog layout

overview:

there no possibility select more 1 section. 1.0.x series have available option ("select multiple sections").

general issues/bugs:

• you can save menu item without select section. there no warning message.
• there unnecessary "article title" parameter on menu item parameters (it can set via component configuration).

specific issues/bugs on blog view:

• there same issues "blog category layout" , "frontpage blog layout" (see above).

8. standard section layout

overview:

the settings of parameters @ "standard category layout" taken partially via component configuration (see issues mentioned below). several parameters removed, , there people asking them (see related report). there no possibility show list of other categories in standard category layout view (see removed parameters).

general issues/bugs:

• you can save menu item without select section. there no warning message.

specific issues/bugs on list view:

• in standard category layout there same issues specific type of layout: "item title", "author" , "hits" can set via configuration, not possible "date column" (see report specific type of layout).
• the "empty categories in section" parameter doesn't work => see specific report
