Guiding a blind... - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello.

i'd throw out idea here see if here's here knows kind of project we're starting up:

want build system remotely guiding blind people. accomplish this, want put device, possibly based on raspberry pi initially, stream video, maybe or maybe through smartphone via bluetooth or wifi. blind person carry device camera showing what's in front of him guiding person , there voice connection between blind person , guide.

have other system running, provide of infrastructure playing streamning video, showing positions on map, plotting route etc. our main concern streaming video seems issue your're in place less premium coverage. have demo app running on android , iphone video freeze or otherwise behave unreliably when don't have great connection. we're fine low frame-per-second rate , low resolution camera long works under less premium conditions.

reason we're not building app imagine it's easier take full control on camera's behaviour , add other devices. build apps , frustrated restrictions posed iphone platform android.

here have experience streaming video raspberry pi device , tweaking parameters "lighter" data video stream?

also, we're interested in has experience distance-measuring add-ons or proximity sensors used in device warn blind user obstacles can dangerous , huge problem walks streets using white cane see.

most carry smartphones. having useful more in helping train need guidance when start learning how adapt being blind or in therapy or classroom unit allows them read news in braille. when blind , relying on cane them, along seeing eye dogs. there smart canes out there.

see useful if have app or use smart cane , triggers cane or smartphone app describe in front of, or when comes door , camera triggers pi trigger announcement @ door. peephole camera needed. same using voice recognition turn on or off items in household.
