i have installed ubuntu v9.10 on dell inspiron laptop , love it. have decided upgrade harddrive larger 1 , don't want have reinstall ubuntu scratch (got set way want now) there way copy of original setup new drive without going through complete install , setup again? big ubuntu team great os package , freeing me microsoft on bloated crap call os.

clonezilla seems preferred tool imaging, can read ext4 (i think?) ext3 , ntfs , these filesystems can read images data, not whole partition (empty space).
download image, burn on cd, boot , image drive (to usb hdd guess). switch drives. boot clonezilla again, put image back. that's theory, haven't tried myself coz new ubuntu , reading backup options yesterday.
