i have started using arduino starter kit (includes arduino uno) , having blast these beginner projects. cannot imagine excitement of completing first project in pushing button lights red led. whoo hoo!
i got because want rig plastic owl own halloween prop. owl has head balanced on pin , turns , bobs in breeze. want put little motor inside rotate owl's head randomly. i'm far in being able pull off. conceptually i'd know kind of motor use such thing. servo? i've done little research , believe arduino capable of called "random sweep" generate random rotational movements? comments helpful. thanks!

a servo should ideal. assume want head turn through, say, 180 deg - normal servos do. can sail winch servos if need greater angle position control.
you can continuous rotation servos (or convert standard servo) can rotate continuously in either direction can control speed - not position. suspect not suitable.
