Thread: Network install problems - januty

hi,

i'm having problems installing ubuntu 9.04 on network sun's virtual box.

i've tried on 2 vms on separate machines , on same same result.

virtual box 3.0.8 , 3.0.10
ubuntu 9.04
both presseed , non preseed installations

first box has standard 9.04 desktop dnsmasq dhcp/tftp, , copies of relevant desktop cd available /ubuntu/ on local web server. runing on sun virtual box on windows 7 (i have installed ubuntu 8.04, 9.04 , 9.10 onto install before using locally mounts cds).

if install off of local cd fine, if choose standard ubuntu mirror fine, if try install local network copy of ubuntu, fails.

can see system (the 1 i'm trying network install on) pull preseed configuration file (when using preseeded install) , can see pull following files (succesfully) webserver on first box:

/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/release
/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/release.gpg

on box doing install error after pulls these first 2 files web server:

"the installer failed download file mirror ... <lots more text>"

selection retry, change mirror or cancel. if chose standard ubuntu mirror works fine.

in /var/log/syslog following errors (the pid # component of file name different each time of course):

nov 16 13:16:44 anna[2764]: cat: can't open /tmp/net-retriever-2772-deduplicate/*': no such file or directory

other log entries fine. looking in /tmp see following files:

net-retriever-2782-release
net-retriever-2782-release.gpg

number in syslog *always* 10 less number in filenames in /tmp. these exact same files mentioned above being served web server (/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/release , /ubuntu/dists/jaunty/release.gpg). have verified files correct using md5 sums.

have tried using standard netboot.tar.gz (i.e. no modifications myself) , gone through menus selecting settings manually , same results (i.e. works remote mirror, not local one).

problem virtual box? missing or doing wrong?

have read lot of pages these sort of installs , can't seem find problem other 2 urls above (which have no replies).

i have same problem this, it's not have solution yet... don't know why still don't solve... or i'm not yet...?????
