Thread: Fairly snarfed my Ubuntu, possible rebuild?

i absolutely love how flexible ubuntu , have been taken full advantage of trying different desktops, different distros, partitioning, etc. kind of power, though, comes great potential reck havock - have done.

basically, have few things behaving oddly. following 2 ones care most.

- internet doesn't work, wired or hard-wired. used work, doesn't anymore.
- everytime open/close application, speakers pop.
- aside that, things missing desktop, etc..

repair ubuntu without reinstalling , loosing files , (lamp server) setup. should troubleshoot problems, or repair install.



here path distruction:
- started kubuntu
- tried vmplayer, windows.
- played gparted, , resized hard drive few times.
- installed ubuntu desktop (i think got studio version)
- upgraded ubuntu 9.10

obviously, there more there, high level.

all config stuff , files in /home. if up, can "paste" new installation.
if have /home seperate partition, can mount new installation. when programs re-instlled, should there again.
when fresh install, worth thinking creating sperate partition /home reason.
