used have older pi , got fried in thunderstorm. bought new pi 3 , installed minidlna on it. followed these instructions. http://raspisimon.no-ip.org/dlna.php
minidlna not recognize usb wd hard drive. on earlier pi, had mount them manually adding them fstab file. automatically shows in media/pi directory. can write etc. minidlna not see it. i've configured minidlna.conf properly. permissions on hard drive drwx------ if chmod -r 777 dirname, not anything.
ideas?
