Arduino Shields Question

i hoping advice arduino shields.
i'm interested in using them expand projects don't want shield attached arduino permanently. looked on website them said had soldered on necessary?
any advice appreciated.

shields designed conveniently stack on arduino using pins.   there sockets on top of shield can stack more on top.   so designed solderless.   a typical arduino (for example, uno) has female pin headers access various pins, , shield have male pins on bottom, connect uno, , have female headers on top.

some shields buy (and matter arduinos) require final assembly soldering components or pins onto them.  in particular, things buy via ebay may shipped in flat package save postage , pins or header sockets need solder on included.

with said, may learn faster , have less trouble if buy components or small modules , build own circuits scratch, prototyping them breadboard.   the thing shields have ability shield knowledge otherwise gain if hooked components pin-by-pin arduino.    if hook individual component arduino, surely know pins using, , when add further components use appropriate different pins won't have conflict.   it not easy know pins used shield, , pins passing through shield , available other uses.
