Thread: Experience on grub4dos

just used grub4dos because of ubuntu while. feel it, tiny powerful. unfortunately, lot documentations didn't mention 1 point, confused beginner lot. not exception.

in grub4dos, "root" means root, derives from, while in ubuntu use meaning root administrator in cases, big difference.

example
root (hd0,0) // operations begin first sector of first hard disk. here first hard disk, mean 1 grub4dos is, confused me long time, not must coincide order recognized bios. grub4dos think hard disk is first one, while bios little clever, bios recognizes several hard disks in ordinary order.

kernel /kerne(tab) root=/dev/sda0 //indicates kernel is. because can't remember name of kernel, use "tab", extremely useful. here tell ubuntu root (the partition of root)is.

initrd /ini(tab) //i lazy typer, use "tab" again, initiallizing kernel

boot //succeed.

form dead. correct way on computer not showed above, should understand how right, since have told stuff mean.

example above mundane, , possibly useful when edit menu.lst, doesn't happen lot. next example more practical.

root (hd1,2)
kernel /vm(tab) boot=casper iso-scan/filename=ubun(tab)
initrd /in(tab)
boot

using method, can install ubuntu iso file without burning on cd. thing need extract vmlinuz , initrd.lz casper, directory in iso file.
