have started 2 or 3 threads asking mic working.
had no luck in finding solution needed , few days ago ready zap ubuntu , return dark side.
running older version of skype 2.00.27.
had tried configure beta version 2.1 pulseaudio per gazillion threads here, gave , went 2.00.27 had @ least known work on odd occasion.
had removed pulseaudio files system , installed gnome alsa mixer.
having realised every time started skype mic muted started asking , unfortunately did not helped. in fact single reply did related karmic on provided link ignored it.

finger hovering above nuke button, hestitated , in moment decided had nothing lose re-installing skype 2.1 beta before consigning ubuntu scrapheap.
strange thing did nothing after except change skype option in sound devices, device default in 3 boxes , bloody thing worked.
worked clearer , better ever before , have not booted windows 5 days now.
love know why worked when else failed, @ end of day, have functioning system joy use. (apart orbicam never worked under xp either).
ok ...i'm off learn little cli.
