Thread: Strange problem with KDE apps

here's thing. had unfortunately removed konquerer , other kde apps gnome menu alacarte. now, when remove , reinstall dont find programs in menu or in alacarte! why that?

this sort of related this post.

basically, user has bunch of text files each containing information application overrides system-wide information application, in terms of applications' names, prevalence in menu, filetypes can open, etc. these files .desktop files.

application's system-wide file installed (into /usr/share/applications) when appliaction installed, it's part of package. on other hand, user-specific override file *created* you, instance, make change applications's menu entry. now, when removing application, potentially existing files in users' directories containing overrides remain, can leave ghost menu entries of apps no longer installed, , likewise missing entries (like you're experiencing). removing app menu doesn't remove file, rather makes file "should not show in menu". after having reinstalled app, file still exist , keep telling menu not show it.

want ~/.local/share/applications/ , find whatever .desktop files in there names rhyme konqueror , other kde apps, , remove them. no longer override system-wide defaults, , menu entries should pop again. may need run 'kbuildsycoca4' after having removed them make menu update.
