i complete pi idiot experienced computer guy. got b+, fired , worked enough - lot of stuff fiddle around with.

need run original python software on gizmo. regular os (raspbian) takes way long boot , has kinds of features don't need, graphic/mouse windows-like interface. embedded processor, want boot in basic way , start executing python program, of course i'd edit , develop python software on also.
hardware wise, want use uarts, maybe spi or i2c interfaces, , collection of gpios. in future version i'd process images noir camera, that's not critical @ time. using uart success now.
read minibian , tried working. there on sd card, can't figure out how load & run python on it, or pretty minibian system.
2 questions have are: should using minibian or there better choice, basic linux allow me program , run python software?
whatever use, how can onto sd card , use it, , how can duplicate card (for both backup , because need make several identical devices)?
basic problem me there *too much* information out there/here! can't seem locate needle in gigantic stack of needles.

stick copy of jessie lite (which doesn't have gui junk until explicitly install it) , see if gets command line enough you.
