my FTDI 232 chip isnt even detected by linux or windows machines

the light goes on, thats it.

im running windows 8 on 3 desktops , 1 laptop has ubuntu.

i foolowed vcp instructions , on no virtual com port available when ftdi plugged in in device manager, plugging ftdi ubuntu device , typing lsusb, device doesnt show again, linux ftdi driver installation less forthright in view may have installed them wrong, pretty downloaded them...

my point though more should have happened if device bricked right?

where can start see if have fake chip

i broke somehow.

i have not installed vcp correctly.

i have no idea, hoping plug , play :/

my advice is, dollar , change, order few of ebay 6pin cp2102 converters while try working.  ive found ftdi , ch340 ones twice cost , 10x trouble.
