Thread: DNS client issue - degrading

i'm running 8.10, upgraded 8.04 few months ago, 64 bit desktop. works ok of time, no serious problems now.

couple of days ago, lost internet activity - cant dns lookups, local lan access fine, , box accessible clients via samba, ftp anything. box not kind of lookup. has dhcp assigned ip , dns etc, , tried manual - ok.

have vmware xp session running on box, , works perfectly, doing own dns lookups.

today, noticed xp vm can no longer access net.

other (windows) pc's on home network unaffected, internet connection, router etc working normally. ubuntu getting worse.

notice since 8.10 upgrade, there network configuration icon in upper right task bar, little cross on - claiming there no connections. when choose edit connection, can see eth1 card , change settings needed. has been long before problem though.

1 have suggestions? thanks

edit: have added manual nameserver entries /etc/resolv.conf , appears improve things. i'm left issue why box doesnt want use router dns server - other clients use fine , did box until few days ago.
