PI2B V1.1 vs PI2B V1.2 - Raspberry Pi Forums

hello!
try buy rpi2b computer , found out on farnell (element 14) side sell new version v1.2 price of 38,83€.
in description written "previous versions of raspberry pi 2 model b use bcm2836 soc, contains quad-core arm cortex-a7 processor. raspberry pi 2 model b v1.2 board uses bcm2837, contains quad-core arm cortex-a53 processor.".
check rs side , selling old version v1.1. 31,88€. quite price difference.
question if know if old version (v1.1) go out of production or stay?

did know if there big difference between 2 processors (a7 - a53). mean if compile program (lazarus) in version v1.1 (a7) work on new version v1.2?

thank help,
kind regards, matija

the v1.1 version out of production. board use '2836 soc and--as result--the volume low justify continuing manufacture of chip.

cortex-a7 cpu armv7, purely 32-bit. cortex-a53 armv8a , has 64-bit instructions 32-bit. @ present, raspbian 32-bit os. cortex-a53 executes instructions faster a7. there have been test results posted indicate pi2b v1.2 (aka pi2b2) 20% faster v1.1 @ same clock speed. if program makes heavy use of neon (simd, think) instructions, may see 60% speed boost on new board.

pi2b2 default same clock speed (900mhz) pi2b, compared 1.2ghz pi3b. *should* eliminate or significant;y reduce risks of throttling due overheating.

thing watch out in switching new version of board sure have current boot files , kernel. other that, pi2b2 direct "drop in" replacement pi2b.
