i have generated index gets formatting assigned styles specified in "generate index" dialog box level 1,2 , 3. of words in document being indexed titles of books have character style of italic.
the difficulty i'm having every time re-generate index after making changes markers in document have manually go through new index assign character style of italic book titles in index.
is there way can indicate indesign want marked words index have italic character style or different paragraph style 1 set rest of level 1,2 or 3 styles assigned not have reformat these titles in index each time?
i see override feature number style of index entry that's , not solve issue.
using cs2 indesign on windows xp
look forward insight.

i tried in cs4 , worked -- think means work in cs2 also:
copy clipboard end nested style here character.
paste on either side of titles in index panel (cs4 odd thing display of topics when this, paste them in right left).
now use them drive italic formatting in generated index.
