paragraph spacing problem

hi,

i having heck of time figuring out spaces between words when put paragraph on justify.

i went menu command have put percentages , can't make work should. when typed in 0% minimum, brought of letters , words close together, , when tried different combos of percentages, couldn't way wanted to.

can explain right way this.

thanks - mike w.

ok, here's how works.

the percentage in center, desired, want in best of possible worlds, 100%. maximum , minimum fields percentages of designed space willing live with, when said 0% telling indesign eliminate space entirely. not intended.

so presuming want designed space when possible, , willing crunch bit or extend space bit, might want number 80, 100, 110. minimum must less or equal desired, , desired must less or equal maximum. setting 2 or 3 of values same restricts possible range, there no guarantee indesign able meet request, in case whatever takes compose line if @ possible. in cases text may go overset (though doesn't happen often), particularly if hyphenation disabled , there no way break line (caused narrow columns , big words or no-break applied).

if want things tightened matter of course can either set negative tracking value in style definition, or can set desired spacing smaller 100%. opposite loosen things up. keep in mind tracking measured in thousandths of em, while justification settings in percent of font designer's ideal values, tracking uniform justification vary.

does help?

peter
