Thread: Installing ubuntu on a seperate Hard Drive?

hey there, i've got windows 7 (x64) installed on sata hard drive , want install ubuntu on ide hard drive? how go doing since in past i've installed ubuntu on ide drive got "no such disk" error in grub.

i have had issues old grub , mixed sata & pata drives. new grub seems worse , there bug grub2 boots slow if installs in mbr of 1 drive boot in other drive.

normal install pata may see sata first , overwrite mbr of windows drive. not issue.

idea of operating system on every drive , in mbr of drive have boot operating system. of course first drive defined bios boot , windows not boot ubuntu (without lots of help), grub , ubuntu should on first boot drive. ubuntu can map windows thinks first drive , if ever want switch order in bios windows drive still boot.

safest way unplug windows drive , install ubuntu, have go , add windows entry grub after plug drive in. in legacy grub had manually add entry grub2 can run update-grub command , should find windows , add grub.cfg.
