okay, putting brochure job today , noticed oddity. placed text box w/text on stock photo , printed out - fine. added drop shadow text , of sudden photo became rather desaturated.
just in case sort of weirdness particular document, created new document, placed several photos on page, , created text box , applied drop shadow. photos on page again noticeably lost saturation, , here's weird part, text box didn't touch of photos. appears affect items on same page - items on other pages unaffected.
it seems whenever have object or text frame on page transparency or special effect drop shadow, photos on page lose 20% saturation.
am missing can compensate for, or bug/feature?

change transparency blend space rgb if bothers you.
