Thread: How to EXECUTE a file in Ubuntu?????


hello, new ubuntu (love btw) , linux, freed windoze.
years of click .exe , bingo there app is, have left me dumb.
very confused how execute program in ubuntu!


in particular, trying execute xsane.
found executable, , click on it, , error comes 'could not open document xsane' – 'there no installed viewer capable of displaying document'
ok... quite confusing me on many levels.

  1. why defaulted open document when file manager lists executable?
  2. how 1 execute executable in ubuntu???



having trouble managing tex – eg: how access it, it, understand scripting ( need psych grad work ) if open .tex file, opens document no available compile or run options... downloaded kile try see if enable me access tex in usable way, kile on system somewhere, again have no clue how access or execute it...
frustrating me poweruser in windoze- reg editing batching file corrolations etc. , im dumbo cant run program or install in way make show on program list!!!


if answer first questions re xsane/executing files in ubuntu ( why read documents??? whats that? ) appreciate this!


if give me tex, telling me how install , use wysiwyg gui tex just, blessing, main question is:
how execute executable?


thank helps- appreciate this, need things going graduate work in helping autistic children , require tex (and latex math) complex research documentation mountains created in such work. ( , sorry corny, children appreciate it! )
