help adding floating div to template - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hello, trying implement floating div example @ glish.com ( http://safewashington.org/testsite/index.php ).
i trying in template joomla-built site here: http://safewashington.org/testsite/index.php.  want latest news module in floating div.

the problem content main page showing through floated div in ff, , content drops below div in ie.

can tell me please if doing wrong or if there tweak need make.  ideally, if floated div not there (say on subpage of site) main content fills place.
