Populate text in field 1 based on calculation in another field

hello,

currently, have calculated field sum of 7 numeric fields. have text field populate based on calculation.

for example, if value in calculated field (total) "27", textfield should read "great job". if total >27, textfield should read "keep trying".

i have 2 questions... script should try? , should script reside?

i have tried add script in 'change' section of total field, since user not changing field (it calculated), script not being triggered. have tried script in 'change' section of each of 7 numeric fields, having trouble referencing total field value.

any appreciated.

i use "calculate" action sum numeric fields , test result , set text field accordingly.
