Thread: Timeout after slow drive spinup on AFP share

hi, all. have ubuntu 9.10, , airport extreme i'm using share 1 tb external drive on encrypted afp. i'm using afpfs-ng 0.8.1, wonderful program alex de vries, mount share through fuse. alex's help, i've gotten login work , disk mount automatically @ startup. far, good.

now, ae job of spinning down drive after short period of inactivity. problem, then, when os wants read cold share, has wait drive spinup... happens slowly. perhaps 10-15 seconds before drive accessible. thus, first operation throw error , have cancelled. second attempt work. however, know if it's possible change setting components involved wait gracefully. not sure whether timeout originating in afpfsd, fuse, or other part of operating system.

i observed same thing when used afpfs-ng. project needs little more love , desktop integration.
