CS2 Windows XP Pro - adding pages auto-pagination problem

i have id cs2 running on windows xp pro. i'm using book function , have 15 sections. section 1 pages 1-20, section 2 pages 21-37. i've added 3 pages end of first section after turning off auto-pagination on other sections (because computer kept hanging every time tried add pages). 3 pages added no problem, instead of ending on left-hand page, section ends on right-hand page. when try add page beginning of section two, begins on right-hand page, selecting "repaginate", computer hangs.

i'm not sure if i've explained clearly, appreciate if has suggestions. here's system info:

microsoft windows xp
professional
version 2002
service pack 2

pentium(r) 4 cpu 3.20ghz
2.39 ghz, 0.99 gb of ram
physical address extension

i'm adding gb of ram today, i'm hoping helps, i'm not sure. think there might wrong file.

what happens if re-paginate after adding pages first section? think should cause rest of document shuffle correct side without adding page, or trying maintain rest of document is, in case i'd add number of pages section 1.

or unable repaginate still due crashing? have yet tried exporting each doc .inx , opening , resaving, or of other suggestions other post?
