Saving custom settings/preferences in CS2..revisited

re: thread: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b4feed

i've been following above thread since upgrading system, requiring reloading programs. magazine layout using id cs2 , have created many custom settings/preferences have taken quite while develop , create...and i'd hate have make note of every setting , manually create every 1 again. these include custom layers, color profiles, page numbering, paragraph , font styles, pdf settings, keyboard shortcuts, dictionary, etc. it'd take month re-create that.

as per peter spier's reply above thread, checked workspaces going documents , settings\<user name>\application data\adobe\indesign\version 4.0\workspaces there's nothing in folder.

peter mentioned "the other half of prefs in \documents , settings\<user name>\local settings\application data\adobe\indesign\version 5.0\caches , called indesign saved settings." followed path , got folder named version 1.0 (i thought cs2 version 4?) containing folder named indesign recovery , 2 files...one named indesign defaults , other named indesign saveddata.

i guess question is, should save "indesign" folders under documents , settings , when reinstalling program, use these overwrite? reinstate custom settings?

dc

dc,

if have no workspaces in user profile, odds didn't save custom ones. it's possible got moved application workspaces folder available everyone. on machine path folder c:\program files\adobe\cs2\adobe indesign cs2\presets\indesign workspaces, path little different.

in version 4, both of preference files mentioned in other thread in same location: documents , settings\<user name>\application data\adobe\indesign\version 4.0.

i think copying old folders new location work fine, make backup copy of new folders first, in case.

peter
