i having awful time trying test mod_rewrite begin enable sef url's on site. unfortunately, site still on local box, not have website can link, best explain situation fully.
first, running xampp on windows box testing purposes.
second, have gone httpd config file in apache , uncommented mod_rewrite module.
third, in httpd config file, have changed instances of allowoverride none allowoverride all.
fourth, have renamed htaccess.txt file nothing.htaccess.
fifth, have deleted of nothing.htaccess file , have included following 2 lines of test code:
options +followsymlinks
redirect /google.html http://www.google.com
sixth, have created blank document in directory called google.html.
when try go http://localhost/google.html, see blank white page, , not re-direct actual google website. there else i'm missing here? other information need provide, let me know , happy so!

just confirm something, renamed file ".htaccess" , not "nothing.htaccess" right?
