i've been trying format laptop installing various flavors of linux (ubuntu, fedora, opensuse), reason can no longer boot cd. drive works , reads discs fine , cd-rom set first boot source in boot menu. however, after wiped xp , installed, think, ubuntu 8.10, have not been able boot cd @ all.
suggestions solving problem or possible explanations why happening? i'm using gateway 450sx4 laptop given me friend. it's junk computer, hoping use learn other versions of linux.
