Can use a potentiometer?

hi everyone,

i want read tension's valor of battery arduino uno. asking myself, if can use potentiometer read battery's valor.

do mean battery voltage?

if battery voltage lower vcc (which 5v on arduino uno) can connect direct.

otherwise use resistor divider instead of pot. pot more expensive , if turn wrong can damage port/arduino.
