How to edit text in an existing InDesign document?

i'm unfamiliar indesign, , apologize in advance i'm sure
is beginner/dumb question, i'm stuck. i've been using
files, far no avail.

i have been given simple (i thought!) task of changing few lines of
text on existing indesign file, using cs3. have not been able
edit these lines of text. i've tried selecting text , using
the text tool, nothing has made possible me delete
text , type in new text.

help of kind appreciated!

are saying select text can't edit
text? if so, sounds text may have been exported out
incopy story.
