my xp hard disk meeting maker has 168 bad sectors , growing need remove xp boot screen , remove drive how go doing without getting error message?

have bought spanking new 1tb drive , windows 7 when install automatically added boot screen?

you have post more information these questions answered accurately.

a) please boot ubuntu, open terminal (applications-accessories-terminal) , post output following commands

code:

sudo fdisk -l  cat /boot/grub/menu.lst

tell structure of disks , current installation.

b) when remove xp hard disk, might lose ability boot ubuntu; because booting program (called "grub") may installed in xp drive's mbr (master boot record); above commands indicate if problem exists.

c) when install windows 7, lose ability boot ubuntu. files , data on ubuntu drive remain safe, not "grub" screen allow select ubuntu.

d) in both cases, fix easy, , requires re-installation of grub can performed either live cd or dedicated grub install cd.

e) order of drives may change in bios, , may need set right. can done after win7 installation, if need arises.
