updating to 1.6.6 using Ubuntu 14.04 - Help

this unfamiliar me , i'm not confident.

i used software finder in ubuntu downloads old version, without facility install serial port.

the question how download installed ?  its    arduino-1.6.6-linux64.tar.xz

installed ?

any thoughts very welcome,

ubuntu repositories still using version 1.05 (by debian) .
debian expecting have stable 1.6.x version  (one day maybe) update  its packets.
if use boards avr 8 bit micros uno, mega, leonardo,  1.0.5 version still functional.
only 0 , due board requires 1.6.x release.
