hello everyone,
have annoying bug related graphics card , x server causes window maximization , resizing take annoyingly long time, , have decided take matters own hands! did research: (you don't have read these understand question)

, found issue can resolved applying 107_fedora_dont_backfill_bg_none.patch can found here:

running jaunty xorg version 1.6.0. downloaded source , applied patch... bit scared proceed. questions these:
1. can test version of x without messing parts of current ubuntu installation? ie. can somehow run in place of version of x without touching of system files?
2. if goes horribly horribly wrong during process , x server broken, how can recover, , files should backup now?
3. , finally, if test version of x seperate system, how integrate ubuntu?
know that's lot of questions, of nice enough me.
