Make text bold using javascript

to make short , simple, here need do:

in javascript, have long string of concatinations. need able make of words in string bold, , others normal. have tried str.bold() method , doesn't seem working me. displays bold tags around word in text field when preview ( word). have text field 'rich text' 'xhtml'.

any advice on how bold words using javascript great. have looked through forums , havn't found helpful far.

i using livecycle 8.

have looked @ acrobat "span" object?
