- lsusb says: 00:12.1 usb controller: ati technologies inc sb700 usb ohci1 controller
- pny mini-attache' 2gig usb stick
- kingston datatraveler 2gig usb stick
- usb 'browser' mouse
- dell usb keyboard smartcard reader
- 'powerup' media card reader usb 2.0
- unknown external media card reader usb 1.1
- startech 2 drive esata/usb2.0 toaster -- using usb since i'd hot swap darn things, , haven't made work right yet esata
when first built machine, loaded 9.04 on it. worked flawlessly. spent 20 minutes getting video work. other perfect. media transfer , usb worked correctly , fast.
sometime in september, machine locked when inserted usb media card. mouse stuck on screen, no reaction keyboard. hard reset thing do. machine has been locking pretty since. i'd 70% of time when stick usb slot locks machine up. might locking usb system, since user interaction happens....i'm sort of boned.
upgrading 9.10 did nothing fix it.
have tried:
- following threads turning on modules , turning on modules
- reset bios 'plug , play aware os' yes , no
- reset bios 'ehci handoff / workaround /etc" every possible combination
- removing multi-card reader completely
- moving connectors around on headers
- pulling hair out
i've had it. naturally when dual boot windows partition....everything fine. nasty, nasty usb bug.
try booting single user mode, , see if still happens. if stay on console when plug device in, might output useful.
